ABOUT COMPANIONS is a very personal project by Thies Meyer and Stephan Sunder-Plassmann from Berlin, and therefore a reflection of their values.
Sustainable working is a determining element in their actions, but they also recognize that "sustainability" is not so black and white; there are several roads, each of which has its pros and cons.
The ABOUT COMPANIONS collection contains an enormous diversity of materials and although all items have some basic sustainable properties such as responsible partnerships, short travel routes and last but not least, a long lifespan, they are all developed individually, with different fabrics, trimmings and treatments. Too much to put on a label.
Because the issue of sustainability is both very important and very complex, ABOUT COMPANIONS tries to be as transparent as possible.
Each item communicates about the specific sustainable aspects, using a number of pictograms.
This way you can make your own informed decision as to which item to buy, according to your own individual beliefs.
RESPONSIBLE
ABOUT COMPANIONS believes in mutual respect and reliable relationships with their skilled and experienced manufacturers.
Regular visits to production partners allow their work to be closely supported - and because ABOUT COMPANIONS only works with suppliers within the EU, it ensures controlled working standards in all factories.
LONG LASTING
ABOUT COMPANIONS clothing is made from the best materials available; consciously designed and manufactured to survive seasonal trends. Together with professional craftsmanship and experience, they offer a conscious and sustainable alternative to carelessly harmful products. It is out of respect for the customers that ABOUT COMPANIONS is driven to make products of high, substantial quality.
LOW CARBON EMISSION
Determined to minimize the carbon footprint, ABOUT COMPANIONS focuses on cellulose and natural fibers that are not derived from petrochemicals. And thanks to short travel routes within the EU, low CO2 emissions are achieved.
BIODEGRADABLE
Items marked with this icon use only natural fiber materials and can be composted.
ECO COTTON
Each item's clothing with this icon is made from eco-friendly cotton only.
VEGAN
Products marked with this icon are made entirely without the use of animal products.
WOOL
Wool is a durable, versatile fiber, naturally breathable and stain resistant. Fewer washes are needed; this saves water. Its naturally breathable property makes it a wonderful material to wear all year round.
TENCEL
Considered the most durable material on the market today! This cellulose fiber is 99.5% recyclable. And because a tencel item remains odor-free even after repeated wear, it also requires fewer washes and saves on water and energy.
LINEN
Garments with this pictogram contain natural linen. This highly absorbent fiber is valued for its exceptional cooling quality and due to its durability, this material ensures light and breathable summer fabrics that remain intact even with multiple washes.
